Like other major shows that took a break for the holidays, Season 27 of NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” is set to return this week with its midseason premiere.
The return of the show will also coincide with the midseason premiere of the original “Law & Order.” Back in November, NBC teased a special crossover event between the two series.
Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid told TV Insider that they were hoping to “have many characters from both shows in both hours, so it feels more like a movie than a handoff to a second show.”

The Season 27 midseason premiere of “Law & Order: SVU” will be available on NBC on Thursday, Jan. 8 and will be available to stream on Peacock the day after, on Jan. 9.
