Commanders interested in Cowboys assistant coach for vacant offensive coordinator job

Instead of the Cowboys reaching out to teams or coaches without jobs for their defensive coordinator vacancy, the franchise on Thursday granted the Washington Commanders permission to speak with tight ends coach Lunda Wells for their offensive coordinator’s job, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Dallas Morning News.
Wells developed a good relationship with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn, who was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for three seasons.
Wells has been the Cowboys’ tight ends coach for the last six seasons. He has aspirations to become an offensive coordinator and was a tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach with the New York Giants for eight seasons before leaving for the Cowboys.
