Rangers are reported to be targeting Sunderland duo Romaine Mundle and Dan Neil – in addition to imminent deals for Tuur Rommens and Tochu Chukwuani.

It’s poised to be a hectic January for Danny Rohl as he looks to put the pieces back together after a disastrous summer. News that he’s lost Dujon Sterling and Connor Barron to long-term injuries have intensified the need for reinforcements and Andrew Cavenagh hinted at a closed-door meeting last night that depth at left-back, in midfield and in the final third are his main priorities.

Left-back Rommens and playmaker Chukwuani, both set to arrive in a £7.5m double deal, fill two of those boxes. But it seems they’re not stopping there.

Sky Sports report the Ibrox side have ‘made enquiries’ to Sunderland for out-of-favour pair Mundle and Neil.

Defensive midfielder Neil was the captain of their promotion-winning side last season while left-winger Mundle, a £2m signing from Standard Liege in 2024, scored five Championship goals last term.

But both have struggled for game-time since their step up to the Premier League. And Rangers are now seemingly circling the duo – with Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris admitting he’s open to finding a new club for anyone who isn’t playing regularly.

He said: “If a player won’t play too much in the second part of the season, there is the possibility for him to find another club to get minutes.”

When asked about transfers at his press conference earlier today, Rohl revealed adding goals to his side is a key priority this month – something he may hope Mundle in particular can help with.

he said: “I think for me it’s not just about the No.9. In general we have to increase our goals. And I think this is an important aspect in what we can find in the market.

“We are looking at some other positions as well. But let’s do the first job with the first two players (Rommens and Chukwuani) and then let’s see what we can do next. But I can give you the guarantee that we work also on different positions.”
