Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd career over no matter which manager replaces Ruben Amorim after senior officials’ decision

MARCUS RASHFORD and other members of Manchester United’s “Bomb Squad” are unlikely to return to Old Trafford despite Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

Rashford and team-mates Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana have all been allowed to leave on loan under Amorim’s 14-month tenure, which ended on Monday.

But SunSport understands the decision to send these players on loan went beyond Amorim and therefore his departure is likely to change little.

A source said: “These were decisions led by the club rather than the manager.”

Rashford scored in Amorim’s first game against Ipswich in November 2024 but soon found himself out of favour.

He was left out of the derby clash against Manchester City the following month, with Amorim criticising his conduct.

He even claimed he would play his goalkeeping coach before “a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day”.

Rashford, 28,  was initially loaned to Aston Villa in the January transfer window before going to Barcelona last summer, with the Catalan giants able to buy him for around £30m.

In Spain he has rediscovered his form and scored seven times this season while also bagging eight assists in 25 appearances.

But his time at Old Trafford appears to be over no matter which manager is in charge after senior officials ruled they needed to improve the dressing room culture.

Sancho, currently on loan at Aston Villa, is also unlikely to make a return.

He fell out with Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag and was initially sent to previous club Borussia Dortmund before moving to Chelsea.

The Blues had a loan deal to buy him but paid a £5m penalty fee not to sign him permanently.

He is currently at Villa but has struggled to make an impact and United will look to sell him in the summer.

Hojlund moved to Napoli last summer and has rediscovered his form, scoring nine times.

The Italians have an obligation to buy him for £38m if they qualify for the Champions League.

Hojlund “liked” a social media post announcing Darren Fletcher was taking over as United manager after Amorim’s sacking.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana – signed by United from Inter Milan in 2023 for £47m – is now on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor.

The club have no obligation to buy, but Onana has doubled his salary by moving to Turkey and has said he is “very happy” playing for the club.
