A sci-fi thriller featuring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt has been hailed by cinema enthusiasts as ‘outstanding’ and ‘smart’, and this evening it’s showing on Film4.
The Adjustment Bureau, which hit screens in 2011, is a sci-fi romance following driven politician David Norris (Matt Damon) who becomes smitten with dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt), only to uncover enigmatic fedora-wearing figures who work for a shadowy organisation manipulating events to separate them and preserve a predestined life blueprint, leaving David torn between his political ambitions and challenging destiny for love.
The Bureau orchestrates mundane incidents, such as spilled coffee or missed transport, to steer people’s paths, yet David’s bond with Elise proves so powerful that it jeopardises their master plan, sparking an exhilarating pursuit through New York City as the couple battles for their freedom of choice.
The picture has amassed a devoted following since its debut, with film ratings platform Rotten Tomatoes showcasing glowing audience reactions, reports the Mirror.
One critique declared: “Outstanding movie with a stellar cast and very convincing bond between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, true top-shelf actors. Cinematography, writing and overall look are intriguing and keep you entertained and interested.”
“Fast paced with enough action to make it feel shorter than it actually is. Time flies when you’re having a good time. One of my all-time favourite movies.”
One viewer enthused: “Entertaining and exciting movie with a great premise. A science fiction movie that my wife actually enjoyed because it’s also a romance. It has a satisfying ending.
