Hilton Cartwright took the catch overhead and looked to play on immediately but the leads weren’t forthcoming as Will Sutherland exited for two.

He’s worth watching, Josh Brown. He has now hit 17 sixes in this tournament, the most of any player, but he is out for 80 off 50 balls – falling lbw to Peter Siddle. He knew he was plumb but reviewed it anyway as there was no harm doing so.

That’s 80 and 84 in the two derbies to become a local favourite.

Downtown Brown plunders Siddle

By Peter Ryan

“Downtown” Josh Brown has helped the Renegades to hit 20 off the first over from the Power Surge. Peter Siddle was the unlucky bowler. It was an excellent display of hitting with three fours and a six. He is batting well again, Brown.

No hat-trick; Brown needs the strike

By Peter Ryan

It’s frustrating here for Josh Brown and the Renegades as he has faced just half a dozen balls in the past four overs. He is the set batsman but is not getting much chance to push the run-rate along.

Stoinis on hat-trick as Rizwan and Jewell fall

By Peter Ryan

Marcus Stoinis is on a hat-trick after getting rid of Rizwan and then Caleb Jewell first ball.

Mohammad Rizwan was dropped once but not twice as Sam Harper caught him off Marcus Stoinis. Rizwan made 21 off 20 so his dismissal with 44 balls remaining may not be such a disaster for the Renegades.

Then Jewell popped it up to mid-wicket to fall first ball.

Maxwell drops Rizwan… yep, Maxwell

By Peter Ryan

It’s unusual but one of the best outfielders we have seen, Glenn Maxwell, dropped Mohammad Rizwan on the boundary after the slow-but-steady Renegade hit the ball to deep mid-wicket. He has yet to hit a six this tournament. Maxwell looked disappointed as Rizwan is a key player in this innings.

Renegades are on track for 180

By Peter Ryan

The Renegades have set a reasonable platform sitting on 2-84 after 10 overs, but Brown needs to go on with it as he is on 49 off 31 balls while the experienced Mohammad Rizwan is on 10 off 10 balls.

Jake Fraser-McGurk hits the roof then out

By Peter Ryan

Jake Fraser-McGurk belted his first six for the innings before he was lucky enough to hit the roof when he miscued a slog straight up in the air. It connected with the roof before landing at the feet of the square leg umpire.

Under the rules, the umpire can determine at their discretion whether the ball was likely to be a six or going straight up in the air. They did not hesitate in saying Fraser-McGurk’s hit was unlikely to clear the rope and call it a dead ball.

But his luck did not last as he hit a ball straight down deep cover’s throat to be out for 17.

Meanwhile, Brown is unbeaten on 49 and the Renegades are 2-74.

Brown goes big

By Peter Ryan

These are early days, and this is sure to mozz him, but Josh Brown looks good early as he sits on 25 after four overs with the Renegades making 33 in the Powerplay.

He hit two sixes and will be looking to replicate his matchwinning 84 at the MCG on Sunday against the Starts.

Renegades lose Seifert early

By Peter Ryan

It was Tim versus Tom in the second over and Carroll won the battle with Seifert hitting it straight to mid-on after a few wild swings.

Seifert did not pick up the wicket’s pace early and paid the price.

The loss brings Jake Fraser-McGurk to the wicket early. Here is his chance.
