Eagles playoffs: 49ers fan warned ahead of time not to mess with Rocky statue in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Historically, opposing teams’ fans make their way to the Rocky statue before a big playoff game in Philadelphia.
All is quiet 48 hours before game time, but Action News did run into some 49ers fans Friday evening.
“As we walked over here, we had, ‘Go Birds, I don’t like your hoodie.’ It’s all in good fun,” explained Tony Martinez, a 49ers fan.
Eagles fans, bars hyped for weekend playoff game
The first of likely many 49ers fans touched down in Philadelphia Friday afternoon and made their way to Rocky for a photo.
Over at Penn’s Landing, fans dressed head to toe in Eagles gear came out to meet Swoop and some Eagles cheerleaders.
“So excited. I’m ready to see them rock it and show the 49ers who is in charge,” said Juli Desjardins of Cinnaminson, New Jersey.
Fans in green took over the ice rink as that playoff excitement filled the air.
Not a doubt in their minds looking ahead as to who will win come Sunday.
“Blow out, trust me when I tell you, blow out,” said Michael Myers confidently.
If there’s one thing that’s for sure, between now and Sunday, if a 49ers jersey is spotted on Rocky, like it was back in 2023, the Eagles will have it in the bag.
“The 49ers fans Facebook group from Philly told me not to do that because somebody will jump you, so they warned me ahead of time,” said Martinez.
