The Orange (10-5, 1-1 ACC) took down Georgia Tech Monday, led by Donnie Freeman’s career-high 27 points in the 82-72 win. Freeman also added nine rebounds, three blocks and a steal. Freeman was injured in the fourth game of the season and sat out over a month. In his two games back, he’s scored 18 and 27 points.
“It’s definitely different, like, a game-changer,” Syracuse guard Kiyan Anthony said of having Freeman back in the lineup. “You know, he’s a winner. He wins games.”
Freeman showed promise in his freshman season, averaging 13.4 points and eight rebounds. He’s averaging 19.3 points in six games as a sophomore. His level of play against ACC opponents will likely determine if Syracuse is at the top of the conference standings or not.
After leading by 20 in the second half, Georgia Tech closed the gap to five points late in the game. The Orange pulled away, led by Freeman and former Georgia Tech guard Naithan George. George scored 17 points, including a few late-game free throws. George was 10-for-10 from the free throw line, despite the boos and heckling from his former home crowd.
Pitt is 7-8 this season, losing its past two games against Clemson and Miami.
