Marli Salmon becomes Arsenal’s youngest ever FA Cup player as he features against Portsmouth

Marli Salmon became the youngest ever player to feature for Arsenal in the FA Cup as he came on in the 4-1 victory away to Portsmouth in the third round.

As reported by Transfermarkt, Salmon broke the record that was previously held by Gedion Zelalem.

At the age of 16 years, four months and 13 days, Salmon entered the fray at Fratton Park.

Zelalem was aged 16 years, 11 months and 29 days when he came on against Coventry City in 2014.

Salmon came on in the 76th minute as he replaced Gabriel Magalhaes and featured at right-back, with Jurrien Timber moving across to centre-back.

The youngster was composed in possession and also made a good challenge.

It was a second senior appearance for Salmon, who featured as a substitute against Club Brugge in the Champions League last month.

Portsmouth took the lead early on today through Colby Bishop but an own goal from Andre Dozzell saw Arsenal equalise before Gabriel Martinelli scored a hat-trick.
