After 50 years in Hollywood, Ted Danson still keeps fans laughing — but a source tells Globe a spate of recent personal losses are weighing heavily on the actor behind the scenes.

“He’s more emotional than ever,” frets the source. “Lately, his emotions can take over a conversation at a moment’s notice.”

Danson had interviewed director Rob Reiner on his Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast — calling him one of his “heroes” — just three months before the 78-year-old’s shocking murder, and spoke of his heartbreak over the death of Cheers costar George Wendt last May.

“I am devastated to hear that Georgie is no longer with us,” he shared in a statement, per Variety, following Wendt’s passing from cardiac arrest at age 76. “It is going to take me a long time to get used to this.”

Prior to the double dose of grief in 2025, the A Man on the Inside star, 78, also mourned the loss of Cheers leading lady Kirstie Alley.

The actress was 71 when she succumbed to colon cancer in 2022.

“Thinking about all his friends’ deaths can overwhelm Ted,” shares the source. “A lot of people are extremely worried about him.”

Among those concerned, says the source, is Danson’s wife of 30 years, Mary Steenburgen.

“He’s slipped into a funk,” insists the source. “You just know to bring Kleenex if you’re going to spend any amount of time with Ted. He really has been through a lot.”
