Beloved fast-food chain is going away and fans are emotional: ‘Never been so angry’

Amy’s Drive-Thru was never the biggest fast-food chain in the country, but for a time it was one of the most unique, and it has a fan base.

Or, more accurately, had a fan base because the last brick-and-mortar Amy’s recently announced that it is shutting down this year.

“After 10 incredible years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Amy’s Drive Thru in Rohnert Park,” the restaurant shared on its Instagram page. “Our last day will be March 8th, 2026. From day one, our mission was simple: to serve delicious, organic food that everyone could enjoy. As the first organic, vegetarian drive thru in the nation, we’ve shared countless meals, smiles, and memories with you — and that’s something we’ll always be proud of.”

Fans of the brand were not pleased with this news.

“I’ve never been so angry,” one person replied. “This is my favorite place and they are all closing. I’m so sad!!!!!!”

“This is heartbreaking,” another wrote. “You guys are our favorite restaurant in Sonoma County!!!! I can’t believe this news. Devastating for (your) company and the local community.”

“This breaks my heart,” another person replied.

The post thanked the current team working at Amy’s and also shared some heartwarming news.

“Because giving back has always been the heart of who we are, we’ll be donating our remaining ingredients to local food banks in the community who can put it to good use,” the statement added.

“Thank you for being part of this journey and bring us into the community,” it closed by saying. “Your support has meant the world to us.”

Amy’s didn’t just serve organic, vegetarian food, it offered unique options in the space. For instance, folks could order “The Amy,” which was a double veggie patty burger with double cheese. There was a “Crispy Chik’n Sanwich,” which offered a plant chicken patty. Amy’s even has vegetarian pizzas.

It was the president of the company, Paul Schiefer, who noted the national sensation created by the unique concept when it first opened.

“There was a buzzy piece to us being the first of our kind in the fast-food space,” he said in 2023.

There is good news for Amy’s fans, though.

The company will plans to continue producing its Amy’s Kitchen’s organic frozen foods which can be found in 43,000 grocery stores across the country.
