Warming trend to bring sunny skies across Portland

A strong high-pressure system brings above-average temperatures, sunnier skies, light winds, and little to no precipitation to Portland in the coming week.

Now through Monday morning, there may be periods of light scattered showers in southwest Washington and the far north Oregon coast. But after this period, models show six to eight dry days in a row.

These temperatures, with a high of 55 degrees on Tuesday, are close to 10 degrees warmer than the seasonal average.

But with this drying trend, air stagnation is expected to impact the Valley areas due to light winds and limited air movement.

As a result, there may be prolonged periods of stagnant air that can trap pollutants closer to the ground. This mostly impacts those with respiratory issues.

An air stagnation advisory has been extended now through Friday morning, expiring at 4 a.m.

Sensitive groups are advised to stay indoors if possible, turn on an air purifier, and close their windows. If they do decide to go outside, a face mask is recommended. Otherwise, check in with their physician for dealing with high levels of air pollution during these periods of air stagnation.

State air quality agencies also strongly advise against outdoor burning during the advisory.
