UK manufacturing giant tumbles into administration – 334 jobs at risk

A UK-based cables company has entered into administration, with hundreds of jobs potentially impacted. Batt Cables, a leading distributor of cables in the UK, across Europe, the USA and worldwide, has appointed joint administrators Sam Woodward and Dan Edkins of EY-Parthenon.
The company, established in the 1950s, currently employs 334 people across its operations. Administrators released a statement in which they pointed out that the action had been taken due to “ongoing” financial issues as a result of the “challenging” market conditions. In a statement, the joint administrators said: “On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Sam Woodward and Dan Edkins of EY-Parthenon were appointed joint administrators of Batt Cables Limited.”
As a result, 70 employees have been made redundant, effective immediately, although the company will continue to operate during this period of insolvency.
The statement added: “Established in 1952, Batt Cables is a leading global supplier of electrical, data, control, and specialist cables, supplying companies across the UK, mainland Europe, USA and Asia.
“The company employs 334 people in the UK and Europe and is headquartered in Erith, Kent.
“It operates nine further sites across the UK and seven sites across Europe, with its main European site in Rotterdam.”
Discussing the factors behind the company’s financial woes, the statement continued: “The company has encountered ongoing liquidity difficulties due to challenging market conditions in recent years.
“Despite efforts to secure the long-term future of the business, it has not been possible to obtain the necessary funding to enable continued trading.
“As a result, Batt Cables has been placed into administration.
“The company is continuing to trade in insolvency whilst the joint administrators explore options for the sale of the business.
“Regrettably, 70 employees have been made redundant with immediate effect.
“A number of employees will be retained to assist the joint administrators in the sale of the company.
“All impacted employees are being offered appropriate support and advice.”
The company helps construction contractors deliver projects in variety of sectors and has its headquarters in Kent.
