Real, Alonso part ways after Barca defeat

Xabi Alonso is out as Real Madrid manager.
The club announced on Monday that Alonso and the team had parted aways by mutual consent.
The moves comes after Los Blancos dropped a 3-2 loss to Barcelona on Sunday in the Supercopa.

Real currently sits second in the table, four points behind Barca after 19 matches.
Alonso, 44, was in his first season as manager following three seasons at Bayer Leverkusen. In 2024, Alonso led Leverkusen to an undefeated domestic season, winning the team’s first ever Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.
As a player, Alonso was widely considered one of the finest midfielders of his generation. He spent six seasons at the Bernabeu, winning a league title, two Copas del Rey and the 2014 Champions League title. He also won an FA Cup and Champions League at Liverpool, as well as three Bundesliga titles and a DFB-Pokal with Bayern Munich.
Internationally, Alonso was capped 112 times by Spain, winning the 2010 World Cup and Euro titles in 2008 and 2012.
Los Blancos return to action on Wednesday in a Copa del Rey Round of 16 tie against Albacete.
