Late Night Questions with Jaguars O-Zone

Have we gotten a single fourth down in the red zone this year? It feels like we NEVER get it, and he does it every damn game. TAKE THE POINTS THAT EARLY. Holy hell. It’s infuriating, John.

This not unexpectedly was a major in-box theme during and after Sunday’s game, with quarterback Trevor Lawrence being stopped inches short on fourth-and-2 from the Bills 9 with the Jaguars leading 7-3 with 11:21 remaining in the second quarter. The situation was made worse when the Bills immediately drove 92 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen is going to be aggressive in that situation. Most of the NFL is aggressive in that situation these days. I don’t expect Coen to stop being aggressive in that situation. When he makes it, he’ll be a genius. When he doesn’t, he’ll be something that’s not as complementary as genius. Such is life for an NFL head coach.

Going for it on fourth-and-2 cost us the game. At every back-and-forth turn, those easy three points would have been the difference. Please don’t give me the silly line about getting the bear right now. The entire dynamic of playcalling and aggression would have been altered had we for once just. Take. The. POINTS!!!

The Jaguars never considered taking the points in that situation Sunday. They wouldn’t do so if given the chance to do it again. That’s not how they’re going to play under Coen.

Great season O-Man. But it still hurts. Absolutely heartbroken O

This is the NFL postseason. All teams are good. When two good teams play well, one of those teams is going to lose. It’s not best of seven. It’s one and done. And when you’re done, you’re gut feels very, very bad – sometimes for a very long time.

This not unexpectedly was a common in-box sentiment Sunday. As should have been the case. This team went 13-4 this season. It won the AFC South. It won eight consecutive games to end the season. It established a strong foundation. That doesn’t mean the season was “good enough.” It doesn’t mean anyone around the organization is satisfied. It doesn’t mean stomachs aren’t sick and turning. It means it’s OK to be proud.

Where has Hines-Allen been in recent games? Has he been on the field?

Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen has been on the field for the Jaguars all season playing at a very, very high level. He was there doing that again Sunday.

This is why we can’t have nice things!

This was the much-ballyhooed, oft-anticipated, sometimes-irritating First Email of the Game. I didn’t understand it. I don’t understand a lot of things.

Koo Koo Kachoo Mr Washington

Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington capped a remarkable season with a remarkable game Sunday – six receptions, 107 yards, one touchdown. Washington’s really good – so much better than I imagined possible. One fer Washington.

Too early in the tenure to win in the playoffs. Need a good shellacking to get humbled, and see why you take the points after a turnover in this tournament. Rookie coach and the quarterback reverted back to old Trevor, what a collapse.

Lawrence didn’t “revert” to anything Sunday. He had an early interception, then threw three touchdown passes – including two in a back-and-forth fourth quarter. He wasn’t at his peak best. He was still really good because he’s really good. It wasn’t “too early” to win. Two good teams played. One won. One lost. That’s what happens in the postseason. There are no “easy outs” in January and February.

I think this loss ranks very close to the 1999 AFC championship game against the TN Titans. We all expected a win with the team we had and the results sucked!

Sunday was gutting. All postseason losses are gutting. Loss in game you could have won when a team was good enough to go to the Super Bowl are really gutting.

Not going to lie, this one hurt. There was something special about this team this year and now it’s over.

When it ends in the NFL postseason, it ends fast. And it ends with an empty, sick feeling.
