Weather Warn Day issued for late Wednesday into Thursday for snow, hazardous roads

A storm system arriving Wednesday brings a chance of snow to Western North Carolina through Thursday morning.

News 13 has issued a Weather Warn Day from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday for snow, leading to some slippery roads. The highest impact time will be Wednesday evening through the Thursday-morning commute.

A strong trough of low pressure moves in from the Northwest, bringing a chance for a mix of rain and snow showers beginning Wednesday afternoon. The mix changes over to all snow Wednesday evening and snow showers will continue Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Higher elevations near the Tennessee state line and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park could see several inches of snow on the ridgetops.

Accumulations in and around Asheville are expected to be light, likely a dusting to an inch, with some locations in the Northern part of Buncombe County possibly picking up two inches.

Bitterly cold air impacts all of WNC on Thursday, with high temperatures stuck in the 20s. Low temperatures drop into the low teens in Asheville by Friday morning.
