EDGEMOOR, Del. (WPVI) — Police have located a 16-year-old boy who went missing after a shooting that injured two people Monday night in New Castle County, Delaware.
The teen, whose disappearance prompted a Gold Alert, was found late Tuesday at the same Edgemoor apartment where the violence occurred.
New Castle County detectives returned to the Paladin Club Apartments in the 8000 block of Park Court, where they located the teen in an apartment where police say he had fled the night before.
“We know he was present during the incident; however, after he ran away from the area, detectives do not believe he sustained any injuries. Because he is a juvenile, a Gold Alert was issued,” said New Castle County Master Cpl. Richard Chambers.
The alert has since been canceled, and investigators are interviewing the teen. He has not been named a suspect.
The shooting was reported around 9:15 p.m. on Monday. Police said a 15-year-old girl was shot and a 44-year-old woman was injured by debris after what authorities described as some kind of altercation.
Police confirmed the 16-year-old boy is the woman’s son. The victims’ names have not been released.
Neighbors said the incident left them unsettled, especially with no information yet on a suspect or motive.
“Everyone right now is a little on alert,” said resident Thea Snyder. “We try to kind of keep an eye out for each other, but again, it’s a good, safe neighborhood. When things like this happen, everyone gets on edge.”
On Tuesday night, multiple unmarked police vehicles were parked outside the building as detectives canvassed the area with flashlights, took photographs and were in and out of the apartment.
Chambers asked anyone with relevant footage to come forward. “Detectives are asking if anybody has any type of Ring camera or security camera in the area that picked up any of this incident, please contact our detectives,” he said.
Police have not released any suspect information.
According to investigators, both victims are expected to recover and are cooperating with the investigation.
