These were the top 10 best-selling EVs in the US in 2025

Despite slower sales in the final few months of 2025, many automakers reported higher overall EV sales in the US. These were the best-selling models last year.
Best-selling EVs in 2025 outside of Tesla in the US
More than 1.27 million electric vehicles were sold in the US last year, accounting for 7.8% of new-car sales, according to new Kelley Blue Book estimates.
After a record third quarter, EV sales fell 36% in Q4 compared to the previous year as buyers rushed to claim the $7,500 federal tax credit, which expired at the end of September.
Tesla remained the market leader by a wide margin. Even though sales were down for a second consecutive year, Tesla still sold over 589,000 vehicles, accounting for 46.2% of sales.
General Motors took second place behind Tesla, with sales surging 48% to 169,887. That’s more than twice the 84,113 electric vehicles crosstown rival Ford sold in the US in 2025. GM accounted for 13% of total EV sales thanks to new models like the Chevy Equinox and Blazer EVs, as well as the Cadillac Optiq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ.

While still far from Tesla, “GM has clearly established its position as the market’s EV leader not named Tesla,” KBB said. The Chevy Equinox EV was GM’s best seller with 57,945 units sold (+100.7% YOY). Ford’s Mustang Mach-E trailed behind at 51,620 (-0.2%).
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 ranked third with 47,039 units sold (+6% ), followed by the Honda Prologue in fifth at 39,194 (+18.7%).

In 2026, more affordable models, like the new Chevy Bolt EV and Nissan LEAF, both now on sale for under $30,000, will write the “next chapter” of EV sales in the US.
Cox Automovie expects the EV share will be around 8% in 2026, up from 7.8% in 2025. New vehicles, improved charging infrastructure, and advances in battery tech will help lower prices, while buyers will have more options than ever.
With more than 30 new EVs launching in the US in 2026, automakers are already discounting current models to make room. You can find EVs available near you or book a test drive using the links below.
