Unexpected NFC North rival said the quiet part out loud about Caleb Williams

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams continues to impress everyone in the NFL with the way he is playing under head coach Ben Johnson, in their first year together.

That Williams-Johnson connection was really shown as the second-year quarterback had to lead a furious 18-point comeback in the second half to help the Bears stun the Green Bay Packers 31-27 in the NFC Wild Card game. Williams finished that game with 361 passing yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions, adding another 20 yards on the ground.

One of Williams’ biggest rivals, Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, had some high praise for the young quarterback while appearing on ESPN. Hutchinson talked about Williams’ play under Johnson’s complex offensive scheme.

“I probably missed two or three sacks on him this year, which hurts so bad. If you are the first one running in, that’s where it’s the hardest because he’s got the spin out, he’s very quick. He’s so tough to defend, but I really think he’s (Caleb Williams) grown in Ben [Johnson]’s system too, especially as the year gone on. Ben is a very progression system. It’s evolved. It’s very high-level offense, and I think as the year has progressed, he’s really gotten a grasp of the offense in a great way.”

Caleb Williams has the attention of everyone after another stellar performance

Sure, the first three quarters were a bit of a struggle for the Bears offensively, but Williams stepped up when they needed it the most against the Packers. Both of his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter and helped the team score a staggering 25 points in the final quarter.

Nothing has come easy for Williams this season, as Johnson threw a lot at his quarterback in training camp that made the former USC star think his head coach didn’t like him. It was clear that Johnson cared about Williams’ development and pushed him because the natural athleticism and arm talent are there with Williams.

There have been several instances where Williams has shown Bears fans he is the real deal with the incredible throws he has made. The one in the Packers that got everyone’s attention was in the fourth quarter, when the Packers faced a fourth down. Williams threw off his back foot and perfectly got Rome Odunze on the sidelines for the long first down.

Williams needs some development, but he is on the right path to getting better as the years go on. Now he can become a nightmare for another defense in the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round.
