David Raya remains firmly the first-choice goalkeeper under Mikel Arteta, and that does not look set to change any time soon.

Arsenal could sell Kepa Arrizabalaga for a profit next summer

Arsenal could actually manage to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga for a profit next summer, given they paid just £5 million to sign him, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Gunners could even look to sign a new number two with the 31-year-old rather disgruntled by his situation in North London.

Arrizabalaga is a big fan of Arteta, but ultimately, he sees himself as a first-choice goalkeeper, making the move seem like a rather strange choice in the first place.

Speaking about the Arsenal goalkeeping situation, Jacobs told Highbury Squad: “It wouldn’t surprise me in the summer if a number two goalkeeper comes in.

“Because Kepa, to my knowledge, as much as he loves Arteta and the culture and the atmosphere still in his head, he’s the number one goalkeeper, which is strange because you chose to join Arsenal knowing David Raya is the number one goalkeeper.

Change my mind, David Raya is the best Arsenal goalkeeper of the Emirates era.

“So nobody can fault Arsenal’s approach there. They pulled off an outstanding bit of business at a low number, and Kepa knew he was coming in as a number two. But sometimes you make that move, and then after a while, as a goalkeeper, it can be quite a lonely place.

“The brilliance of Berta on that deal is if Kepa’s sold because he spent most of his life as a number one, and I think it was when Chelsea signed him, he was a world record fee for a goalkeeper.

“So, they’re going to turn a profit on Kepa whether he plays one game, five games, or 100 games as the Arsenal number two, but I’m not so sure that that will be a long-term number two signing.

“Even though, of course, if you’re greedy and you’re Arsenal, you love the fact that you’ve got two quality goalkeepers. So, that for me will be one to watch in the summer, but I’m not expecting him to go mid-season either.”
