Ethan Browne, son of Jackson Browne, dies from accidental drug overdose at 52

Ethan Browne, the son of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, died from an accidental drug overdose in November, according to Rolling Stone.
The 52-year-old died Nov. 25 from the effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine and lidocaine, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined. He was found unresponsive in his home that morning. Officials ruled the death accidental and have not released additional details.
The family initially requested privacy without disclosing the cause of death.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away,” the family said in their original statement.
Born in 1973, Ethan Browne grew up in Los Angeles and pursued careers in modeling and acting, Parade noted.
He appeared in campaigns for designer Isaac Mizrahi and had roles in the films “Hackers” and “Raising Helen,” as well as the television series “Birds of Prey.” He maintained a private life despite his family’s prominence in the entertainment industry.
Jackson Browne, known for hits including “Running on Empty” and “Somebody’s Baby,” has not issued a new statement following the medical examiner’s report.
In past interviews, he spoke warmly about his relationship with his son. He told Route Magazine in 2021 that fatherhood became his “main focus” after the death of Ethan’s mother, Phyllis Major.
“Ethan is a great father. He’s a great son, a great man… it makes me very proud,” Jackson Browne told Tru Rock Revival. “It makes me feel I’ve done something really right in my life.”
