2 injured in daylight stabbing on TMU campus

Police arrived at the area of Yonge and Gerrard street just before 10:30 a.m. where two people had injuries. One had serious and one had minor injuries.

Two adults who were sent to the hospital following a fight on and near Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) campus have been arrested, police say.

Toronto police say they were called to the area of Yonge and Gerrard streets just before 10:30 a.m.

Officers located two people with injuries, one of whom was rushed to the hospital via emergency run.

A media officer later confirmed to CP24 that one person sustained stab wounds, while the other had minor injuries.

Police said the stabbing did not occur on the TMU campus.

Paramedics said they transported one adult to the hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. Another was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, they said.

Police have confirmed that two injured persons were subsequently arrested. It is not clear at this point what charges they may be facing as the case is still being processed, Const. Ashley Visser told CP24 on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking with the media at the scene on Wednesday afternoon, Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury said police were called to the area for reports of a fight, during which one person was stabbed.

Bradbury said that individual sustained “multiple stab” wounds and was rushed to the hospital.

“I’m happy to say that their injuries have been reported to be non-life threatening, and due to the quick action from our frontline officers from 51 Division, the outstanding party, or the party responsible for this, has been arrested,” he said.

Bradbury said the fight occurred in a number of locations, both on the Toronto Metropolitan University campus as well as across the street in the front of Covenant House, where he said the injured persons tended to their wounds.

Bradbury said those involved in the incident were not TMU students and were not connected to the university.

“Police are quite confident that there are no outstanding parties and that the persons responsible for this have been arrested, and that the community is safe to my knowledge,” he said.

“I’m just happy that the person has non-life threatening injuries and that the community is safe.”
