Doomsday’s New Trailers Confirm an Alarming Audience Trend for Marvel

Marketing for Avengers: Doomsday officially kicked off a few weeks ago when Marvel released the first teaser, confirming the return of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, but things have fallen quite a bit since then. Marvel followed its first Doomsday trailer with another teaser focusing on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, though his return had previously been confirmed in 2025’s big chair reveal announcement. The third trailer revealed the first look at returning X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and even James Marsden, and the final trailer (released just yesterday) focused on Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), and The Fantastic Four.
The first Avengers: Doomsday teaser currently has 18 million views on YouTube, while the second sits at 17 million. The third teaser fell to 14 million, and the fourth and final teaser has only six million views. This will rise in the coming days for sure, but it still shows that interest in the film appears to be tailing off. It’s unclear at this time when the next Doomsday teaser will be released, but the last footage from yesterday may be the last for a while. The first official trailer will likely drop three to four months ahead of its premiere in December.
Many fans felt it was a mistake for none of the teasers to show a look at Doctor Doom, especially considering he’s supplanted Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) as the new feature villain of the saga. However, this could be a ploy to build intrigue and hype in the coming months as fans speculate about how Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is going to translate into live-action. There are other confirmed characters, like Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), who have yet to be revealed in Doomsday marketing.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Have Some Major Box Office Competition
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be one of the biggest movies of 2026, and it will open alongside another film with these same expectations. Warner Bros. will bring Dune: Part Three to theaters on the same weekend as Avengers: Doomsday — both films are currently set for release on December 18. Doomsday was previously set to premiere in May before being delayed back to December last year. This has the potential to be movie theaters’ next big Barbenheimer event, and fans have already coined it Dunesday. Doomsday will likely collect more at the box office than Dune 3, but fans of both will still have a choice to make on opening day.
