Was it the wind? Brief power outage hits Algoma Region today

This morning at 8:25 a.m., ‘PUC experienced an undervoltage event on the incoming 115 kV supply,’ said PUC official
Did you notice the power flicker this morning?
At 8:25 a.m., the power went out briefly across the Algoma Region – spanning as far as Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa and Blind River, and communities in between.
SooToday reached out to the towns of Blind River and Wawa, with someone in each community confirming a power interruption.
Residents from Sault Ste. Marie and beyond have taken to social media to discuss the issue.
PUC Services said there was a brief “undervoltage event.”
This morning at 8:25 a.m., “PUC experienced an undervoltage event on the incoming 115 kV supply,” said Jairus Patterson, manager of communications and customer relations.
“We contacted the Hydro One Control Room, who confirmed they also observed the event but had no additional information at that time. Hydro One is currently investigating.”
In a statement, Hydro One attributed the momentary outage to windy conditions, or something – perhaps a tree – coming into contact with a transmission line.
“We understand there were high wind gusts in the area at the time,” said Bianca Meta, media relations coordinator.
“This momentary outage may have been felt by customers of the local electricity provider.”
