Slovakia’s Nela Lopusanova ties U18 women’s hockey scoring record

Slovakian sensation Nela Lopušanová has entered the record books.
The 17-year-old has tied American star Kendall Coyne Schofield for most career points at the world women’s under-18 hockey championship with a goal on Thursday in a 7-2 quarterfinal loss to Sweden in Sydney, N.S.
Lopušanová now has 22 goals and 33 points in 14 games over four years competing at the tournament. She has six goals and one assist in four games for Slovakia this year.
“I thought about it, but the team comes first,” Lopušanová said of potentially breaking records in an interview earlier this week with the Cape Breton Post.
“It’s a big honour that I can be the team’s captain and lead this team. I’m just going to play my game, and the points are going to come. I’m happy with my point production, but I just want the team to win more than individual success.”
Lopušanová is a two-time most valuable player at the tournament (2023 and ’25) and was the event scoring leader in 2023, despite playing on one of the weaker teams.
Lopušanová has been playing high-school hockey in Rochester, N.Y. She is scheduled to start playing NCAA hockey next season at the University of Wisconsin.
