Young Canadiens forward criticized after costly play in loss to the Capitals

It was not a glorious night against the Washington Capitals for certain Montreal Canadiens players.

One of those players is 22-year-old forward Zachary Bolduc.

As a reminder, the Canadiens led 2-0 Tuesday night in Washington, before losing 3-2 in overtime.

For 40 minutes, the plan was working. Josh Anderson opened the scoring in the first period, then Brendan Gallagher doubled the lead in the second. At that point, the Habs had exactly the type of game they wanted. Except the NHL doesn’t give you anything for free, especially on the road.

In the third period, Ethen Frank struck twice. He first cut the deficit, then tied the game with less than two minutes to play. When you let a team like the Capitals breathe, you end up paying for it.

In overtime, Connor McMichael settled things with 39 seconds remaining. Logan Thompson finished the night with 24 saves, while Samuel Montembeault stopped 39 shots in the loss.

Yes, Monty kept his team in it. However, back to Zachary Bolduc.

Zachary Bolduc was lazy on a crucial sequence and a sanction could come from Martin St-Louis

Will St-Louis punish Bolduc by sending him to the press box?

Let’s just say he really doesn’t look good here:

“Ethan Frank was able to score his first goal of the game because Zachary Bolduc stopped skating in the offensive zone, instead of coming back to defend, after losing the puck.” – Maxime Truman

“Okay guys, let’s not focus on the shi**y quality, let’s just focus on the shi**y defense. BTW, if you’re wondering which one is Bolduc, he’s the one not skating.”

He completely cheated on the play, and it hurt.

I’m very curious to see what comes next for Bolduc here.
