Vietnam advanced to the quarterfinals as group A winners after defeating Jordan 2-0, Kyrgyzstan 2-1, and host nation Saudi Arabia 1-0. This marks the first time in history that a Vietnam team have progressed as group winners in an Asian tournament.
Meanwhile, the UAE finished second in Group B, with a tougher journey, winning against Qatar 2-0, losing to Japan 0-3 and drawing 1-1 with Syria in the final match, a result just enough to secure their place in the next round.
Beyond the result, Vietnam’s performance was highly praised, with clear tactical approaches, team spirit and organization. Meanwhile, like other West Asian teams, the UAE, had a slight advantage over Vietnam in terms of physical strength.
