It’s bad news for Coronation Street fans as their Tuesday trip to Weatherfield has been cancelled just one week into the new schedule.
ITV’s new “power hour” of soaps, began last week and saw Coronation Street and Emmerdale move to a new scheduling pattern following the epic Corriedale episode.
From Monday to Friday, 30-minute Emmerdale episodes air at 8pm, and 30-minute Coronation Street episodes air at 8.30pm. However, already the ITV schedule is temporarily changing – and fans are not best pleased about it.
On Tuesday (January 13) both soaps have been bumped from their slots and in another blow to fans, no new episodes will be available to watch early on ITVX.

Instead, the programmes will return to the usual slot of 8pm to 9pm on Wednesday (January 14). The soap shake-up is down to ITV airing live coverage of the Carabao Cup match between Newcastle United and Manchester City. Coverage starts at 7:30pm for an 8pm kick-off.
And it’s fair to say fans were left confused when trying to watch the episode that is usually released early on ITVX. “No soaps tonight due to football,” said one person on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page.

Someone else added: “Football AGAIN.” A third fumed: “Wow I’m bloody gutted can’t believe they’ve yet again taken another programme off for the stinking football.”
Echoing their thoughts, another angry viewer wrote: “Exactly!! There’s plenty of other channels that could air football!” A fifth also declared: “I was fuming. Not everyone wants to watch sport. Put it on a dedicated channel.”

Speaking previously of the new “power hour” of soaps, Kevin Lygo, director of television at ITV, said: “The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led. We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them in the most digestible way.
“In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule to keep up to date with the shows.
“Research insights also show us that soap viewers are increasingly looking to the soaps for their pacey storytelling. Streaming-friendly, 30-minute episodes better provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for storyline pace, payoff and resolution.”
Coronation Street airs next on Wednesday (January 14) at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
