Winter Weather Advisory in Southeastern Alabama: January 2026

By Jim Stefkovich, Meteorologist, Alabama Emergency Management Agency

CLANTON – Saturday, 230 pm, January 17, 2026

Henry and Houston counties in southeastern Alabama are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 am – 11 am Sunday.

There have been no significant changes since this morning’s forecast except for slightly higher snowfall accumulation probabilities for the far southern sections of the state.

Rain will move into the southern half of Alabama late this afternoon through the evening mainly south of a Livingston – Montgomery – Auburn line. Rain will mix with and possibly change to snow between 1 am – 4 am generally east of I-65 and south of I-85, ending by 12 pm Sunday.

As you can see from the probability graphics, although they have gone up some since this morning for slightly higher snowfall accumulations, this is still expected to occur in grassy areas.

Temperatures at 2 pm today were in the middle to upper 50s over the southern half of the state which have warmed roadways. As a result, no significant impacts are expected on roadways from snow.   Temperatures between 5 am – 9 am Sunday morning are forecast to lower to 30-35 degrees and there could be a few slick spots on bridges if any standing water occurs and temperatures reach 32 degrees.  Temperatures after 9 am will rise above freezing with highs Sunday afternoon in the lower to middle 50s.

The worst case scenario is “if” the snowfall is heavy enough to overcome melting on the ground, there could be a few brief, slushy spots on roads.  But again, right now this is not expected.
