For the first time in history, India have lost an ODI series at home against New Zealand. The Black Caps, after suffering a close defeat in the series opener played at BCA Stadium in Vadodara on January 11, staged a stunning comeback and won the second and third ODIs played in Rajkot and Indore by 7 wickets and 41 runs, respectively. World No. 2 ODI batter Daryl Mitchell scored back-to-back centuries for the Michael Bracewell-led side to help the Black Caps win their first ever ODI series in India.

While a win in Indore helped New Zealand end their long wait, it brought humiliation for the hosts.

In Shubman Gill’s first home series as India captain, the world’s No. 1 ODI team suffered a defeat. The defeat will hurt more because New Zealand played the series with their second-string team. The likes of Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy were missing from the squad.

After India lost the ODI series despite Virat Kohli scoring a century, Indian fans slammed the team for their poor performance.
