Vegas Trade Heist; NYR Decisions; Penguins Make Moves

SEATTLE — The Vegas Golden Knights’ ability to have an endless supply of first-round picks more resembles a basket of fishes and loaves. The VGK swiped Rasmus Andersson off the NHL trade board and away from the Boston Bruins Sunday. The Pittsburgh Penguins made some moves on and off the ice Sunday. ESPN did a mock Team Russia for the Olympics, the New Jersey Devils are crumbling, and other teams are following their lead.
Today begins a long day that starts in Seattle and will end in Calgary well after midnight. Take your protein pills and put your helmet on.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins made some moves Sunday. Ryan Graves looks like he’ll get some ice time. Oh, and an Erik Karlsson update, too. Shelly Anderson has the somewhat surprising Penguins practice.
After practice, the Penguins made more moves, too. There’s a Caleb Jones update, Rutger McGroarty made the drive back East, and Ben Kindel talked about his dry spell in our Penguins locker room feature.
Ground Control to Major Tom.
Steelers Now: Mike McCarthy?! Only if he buys Battleships every Sunday. There are updates and new names in the Steelers coaching search.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
Ten, nine, eight, seven, six…
Vegas Hockey Now: First-round draft picks? We don’t need no stinking first-round picks. Ace Vegas reporter Hannah Kirkell has the full trade and analysis as general manager Kelly McCrimmon swiped Rasmus Andersson out from under the Boston Bruins, and Andersson is headed to the Vegas Golden Knights.
ESPN: So, what would a Team Russia look like for the 2026 Winter Olympics? Ryan Clark teed up what would have been the Russian team. Yes, Evgeni Malkin is on the team, and it’s a pretty interesting look.
Commencing countdown, engines on.
TSN: Ottawa’s goaltending has gone from unacceptable to horrendous. You need more than 10 saves to win. Yep, it’s getting that bad.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Wow. The Swamp Monsters are also crumbling, and it seems there is no end in sight. The Carolina Hurricanes took them to the woodshed, and the players in the locker room are ripping themselves. James Nichols has the increasingly ugly story of the New Jersey Devils.
Five, four, three, two…
Sportsnet: It’s a running theme today. The Penguins play the Vancouver Canucks next weekend. Right now, the Canucks are buckling and in disarray. Vancouver was humiliated in another loss to the Edmonton Oilers. It’s only getting worse on the Pacific.
Florida Hockey Now: A good coach is never done coaching, no matter how veteran or successful the team. After getting crushed by Carolina 9-1, the Florida Panthers rallied to win their next game, and coach Paul Maurice made sure to thank the boys at the final horn. George Richards has the Panthers’ reaction.
Check ignition and may God’s love be with you (one, lift off).
