Slow start to second half dooms Phoenix men in loss to Oakland

(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – The Green Bay men’s basketball team dropped a Horizon League home game, falling to Oakland 88-63 Sunday afternoon at the Kress Center.

Ramel Bethea led the Phoenix (11-9, 6-3) with 11 points and four blocks. Marcus Hall tacked on nine points and four assists, and Preston Ruedinger helped out with six points and eight assists.

Oakland (11-9, 7-2) was led by Tuburu Naivalurua, who had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac Garrett also secured a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 30-19, Green Bay went on an 8-0 run with 6:49 left in the first half. After a three from Hall GB narrowed its deficit to 30-27. Oakland answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Phoenix down 37-31 entering halftime.

Oakland came out hot to start the second half, going on an 11-2 run, after a layup by Brody Robinson to expand its lead to 48-33. Green Bay never caught up and was outscored 51-32 in the second half, ending their five-game winning streak.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay had nine blocks as a team, including a season-high four from  Ramel Bethea.
» Oakland outrebounded Green Bay 42-24, including 18-8 on the offensive boards.
» Justin Allen led Green Bay with six rebounds.

ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay will hit the road next weekend to take on Youngstown State on Thursday and Robert Morris on Saturday.
