Trump speaks at White House amid Greenland tensions

Donald Trump has posted a picture of a message from Emmanuel Macron on social media, in which the French president offers to host a G7 meeting after Davos and says “I do not understand what you are doing” on Greenland.
In the message, Macron offers to set up a meeting with the G7 countries, Ukraine, Denmark, Syria and Russia in Paris on Thursday.
“We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland. Let us try to build great things,” the message says.
An Élysée official confirmed the private message published by Trump was real.
Trump had earlier threatened massive tariffs on French champagnes and wines if Macron does not join his ‘Board of Peace’ initiative.
“Nobody wants him because he’s going to be out of office very soon . . . I’ll put a 200 per cent tariff on his wines and champagnes and he’ll join,” Trump said.
The Élysée official said: “As we have always stressed, using tariff threats to influence our foreign policy is unacceptable and ineffective”.
