Tyler Tachman, Hawk Central: After starting the season 4-0, Rutgers has gone just 5-9 over its last 14 games, and some of those losses have come in ugly fashion. The Scarlet Knights beat former Iowa coach Fran McCaffery’s Penn squad by only one point.
This isn’t a ringing endorsement, but Rutgers has managed to pick up a couple of Big Ten wins this season (Oregon and Northwestern). The Scarlet Knights also kept their losses to Ohio State and Wisconsin within single digits, the latter of which was on the road.
Rutgers won’t be the worst team Iowa has faced this season. But the Scarlet Knights also won’t be in the same area code as some of the best.
To be quite frank, it would be a letdown if Iowa didn’t win this game by double-digits, especially since it’s at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, a venue in which McCollum’s team has lost only one game so far this season.
