In the middle of a pretty manic run of fixtures for the Magpies, Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes took the opportunity to blow some cobwebs and take some time out, as he and his family headed to the coast for a day out. And they chose to visit a park that many of us will have fond memories of and has been called the ‘perfect’ place whatever the season.

There’s no denying that it’s been feeling rather chilly of late in the North East, with sub zero temperatures and heavy snowfall for many parts of the region earlier this month and more apparently on the horizon in the coming weeks. Thankfully, last week there was a slight reprieve as temperatures went from freezing to the dizzy heights of 9 degrees and, grabbing the opportunity to get some sea air ahead of Sunday’s match against Wolves and after a disappointing night at St James’ Park against Man City in the Carabao Cup, Bruno, wife Ana and their two sons went to South Shields’ famous Marine Park.

A park loads of us will have been to as kids on many a school trip, it’s still a hugely popular destination and, while it’s over the summer when it’s at its busiest, particularly if there’s a concert on at nearby Bents Park, Marine Park attracts plenty of visitors all year round, with walking trails to explore, a park to play on, a Toney Minchella’a cafe to head to for a bite to eat, a lake and its own steam train.

Bruno and other half Ana both shared a few snapshots of their trip to Marine Park on their Instagram stories, with one of the photos of the family together captioned ‘words can’t describe’ as one from Bruno’s read ‘Obrigado meu Deus’ which, when translated to English, meams ‘Thank you my god.’

Bruno’s visit to the park quickly became a talking point amongst locals on Facebook, with one sharing his post and writing: ‘ Bruno been to see how the sand dancers roll today in the marine park’ as another NUFC fan reacted: ‘Was that marine park mate f*** me what’s the chances eh?’

There was a frustrating day at the office for Bruno and his United teammates on Sunday, when they took on the Premier League’s bottom club Wolves in an uneventful 0-0 draw that definitely wasn’t one for the history books and gave Sky’s Super Sunday a very lacklustre first game. Next up for Eddie Howe’s men is a return to European action, when they take on Dutch giants PSV at St James’ on Wednesday night.
