Falcons expected to hire former Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as new OC

In 2025, he became the Browns’ OC, replacing Ken Dorsey but not Stefanski as the team’s play-caller. Eventually, Stefanski gave Rees a shot at the play-calling reins in November.
Regardless of whether it was Rees, who played quarterback at Notre Dame, or Stefanski directing the offense, Cleveland struggled mightily, finishing 31st in points scored and 30th in yards gained in 2025. Ultimately, Stefanski was fired after a 5-12 season.
The Falcons pounced on the veteran HC, making him the second hire of the 2026 cycle. Stefanski and Rees will find a Falcons offensive roster offering far more star power than the one left behind in Cleveland. Atop the starry list are running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London.
Whether Rees or Stefanski calls the plays when Atlanta begins next season will obviously remain to be seen, but tops among their objectives will be stewarding the career of quarterback Michael Penix Jr., with the 2024 first-round pick coming back from November knee surgery.
