Did the Mets become more well-rounded with Pete Alonso’s departure?

It wasn’t the best start to the offseason for the New York Mets, as they lost two of their best players, closer Edwin Diaz, who signed with the reigning back-to-back World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles.
Of course, losing their closer was a notable loss for the Mets, but losing an immense talent like Alonso was arguably the biggest news of the offseason.
However, one thing that the Mets should be commended for is their effort to replace the massive impact Alonso once provided the team alongside all-star slugger, Juan Soto. Last week, the team signed former Toronto Blue Jays two-time all-star, Bo Bichette, to a three-year deal worth $126 million.

Then, on Tuesday, the Mets traded for outfielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox, adding a great two-way player. With the projected lineup after the trade, the Mets are making a case for a more complete team, even with Alonso’s departure.
Any team that still has Francisco Lindor and Soto will always have a chance to be a contending team, as long as they have the right pieces around them, and that seems like the mindset the Mets are having with two of these latest moves.
Creating this team also keeps the Mets on track with their NL East rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.
So, although it may be hard for the team to fill the void left by a big-time player such as Alonso, even with the additions, it may still not be a better team than before, but the Mets are clearly still attempting to build a championship team.
