Wrecks in Arkansas kill 7 people, hurt 5 others

Seven people were killed and five others injured in seven crashes on Arkansas roads last week and on Jan. 5, according to preliminary police reports.
Around 10:38 p.m. on Jan. 5, Jason Dotson, 47, of Dover was killed while driving against traffic on Interstate 40 in London, a report from state police says.
Dotson was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu east in the westbound lanes when a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer steered to avoid him, and the Malibu hit the back of the trailer, the report says. The Malibu then crossed into the inside lane, still driving against traffic, and struck a 2025 International truck, the report says.
The International truck’s driver, Anthoney Hale, 47, of Benton, was injured, the report says.
On Wednesday, Robert Furches, 71, of Millington, Tenn., was killed in a crash at a Jonesboro intersection, a report from Jonesboro police says.
Furches was driving a 2023 Freightliner east on CW Post Road around 10:55 a.m. when the truck struck a 2020 Volvo heading south on Moore Road, the report says.
The Volvo’s driver, Dinh Linh Hong, 55, of Morrow, Ga., was injured in the crash, the report says.
On Thursday, Jared Smith, 28, of Trumann was killed when he was struck by a truck on Interstate 555 in rural Poinsett County, a report from state police says.
Smith was standing in a lane of traffic due to a previous crash and was struck by a northbound 2003 Dodge Ram around 5:43 a.m., the report says.
At 11:35 a.m. on Thursday, Heather Lehr, 56, of Berryville, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 62 in Berryville, a report from Berryville police says.
Lehr was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt west when the car crossed the centerline, left the roadway and struck a concrete wall, the report says.
At 10:59 p.m. on Thursday, Demarcus Aaron, 27, of El Dorado, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Arkansas 355 in Nevada County, a report from state police says.
Aaron was driving a 2013 Nissan south when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, the report says. Two passengers, Lakiyah Hopson, 22, of Camden and Jonavan Robinson, 18, of El Dorado, were injured, the report says.
On Friday, Alene Drummond, 64, of Bigelow, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in rural Pulaski County, a report from state police says.
Drummond was driving a 2005 Toyota Tundra west on Arkansas 10 at 4:09 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway, went down an embankment and struck a tree, the report says.
Around 5:50 p.m. on Friday, Larry Neal, 56, of Bay was killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 555 in rural Poinsett County, a report from state police says.
Neal was driving a 2000 Mazda north when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a cable barrier and crossed the median into the opposite lanes, where it struck an oncoming 2023 Freightliner, the report says.
The Freightliner’s driver, Mark Torbert, 48, of Huntsboro Ala., was injured, the report says.
