Wrexham Launch Huge £19m Offer to Hijack Crystal Palace Transfer

Wrexham have submitted a club-record £19m bid for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif as they aim to hijack Crystal Palace’s pursuit of the 19-year-old, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed.
The Championship side have reportedly lodged an official offer for the highly promising forward, who is expected to be on the move this month.
Wrexham’s offer includes a guaranteed £12m up front, with bonuses, and also comes with a substantial promotion payment on top.
Wrexham broke their transfer record three times last summer, with Nathan Broadhead’s £10m move from Ipswich Town remaining the club’s biggest signing.
Wrexham Table Bid for Sidiki Cherif
According to Nixon, Wrexham are hoping to lure Cherif to Stok Cae Ras this month by offering him a better chance of game time.
The 19-year-old is believed to have already turned down an offer from Ligue 1 side Paris FC, while Crystal Palace tabled their proposal last week.
There is a sense Cherif could be swayed by the opportunity for immediate first-team football over interest from Selhurst Park, as he looks to continue his steady development.
The centre-forward broke into Angers’ senior squad in the 2023/24 season, making seven appearances in Ligue 2, and scored his first top-flight goal three months ago.
This season, the 19-year-old has found the back of the net four times in Ligue 1, making 13 starts and five substitute appearances.
He scored two of his goals against Champions League clubs Monaco and Marseille, helping Angers go unbeaten in both games.
Wrexham’s January Business So Far
Following an unprecedented offseason of spending for the club, with around £30m splashed on new signings, Wrexham have yet to register any major transfer activity in January.
Thirteen players moved to Stok Cae Ras over the summer, and the only first-team business so far this month has seen striker Jake Bickerstaff join Cheltenham Town, while James McClean returned to Derry City.
As CEO Michael Williamson indicated recently, new arrivals in January are likely to depend on whether further squad depth is needed due to injuries, or if there is an opportunity to add a high-potential player.
He admitted Wrexham already have a ‘very strong squad’, and recent results have reflected that, with the Red Dragons winning six of their last eight games across all competitions.
