Section 31’ Nominated For 5 Razzie Awards – TrekMovie.com

Last January’s Star Trek: Section 31 streaming movie has picked up a few industry award nominations, but today it’s being recognized in a different way. The Paramount+ original film has been nominated for the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka “The Razzies”), which recognize the “worst in film.”

Section 31 gets razzed

After years in development, Star Trek: Section 31 arrived in January 2025 as a streaming movie, featuring the return of recent Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh as former Emperor Georgiou. It was touted as something new and different for the franchise, with the potential to launch a series of Paramount+ original movies to complement the original Trek TV series. However, the film ended up being panned by critics and fans.

Today, in their 2026 nomination announcement, the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation summed up the movie as a “convoluted mess beaming its audience to a frontier that could finally bring this once inspiring franchised journey to a screeching halt.” Section 31 has a total of five nominations for the 26th annual Razzies, including one for the “$4.97 gold spray-painted Worst Picture Statuette.” Other films nominated for “Worst Picture” are The Electric State, Hurry Up Tomorrow, Disney’s Snow White, and War Of The Worlds.

Star Michelle Yeoh was nominated for “Worst Actress” along with Ariana DeBose (Love Hurts), Milla Jovovich (In The Lost Lands), Natalie Portman (Fountain Of Youth), Rebel Wilson (Bride Hard). Kacey Rohl was nominated for “Worst Supporting Actress” for her Section 31 role as Rachel Garrett. Her competition is Anna Chlumsky (Bride Hard), Ema Horvath (The Strangers: Chapter 2), Scarlet Rose Stallone (Gunslingers), and Isis Valverde (Alarum).

Following his Image Award nomination as Best Director for Section 31 last week, Olatunde Osunsanmi was nominated for “Worst Director” by the Razzies. He goes up against Rich Lee (War of The Worlds), The Russo Brothers (The Electric State), Trey Edward Shults (Hurry Up Tomorrow), and Marc Webb (Snow White).

The Section 31 writers (screenplay by Craig Sweeny with original story concept developed by Bo Yeon Kim & Erika Lippoldt) are also up for “Worst Screenplay.” The other films in the category are The Electric State (screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, adapted from the illustrated novel by Simon Stalenhag), Hurry Up Tomorrow (screenplay by Trey Edward Shults, Abel Tesfaye, Reza Fahim), Snow White (screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson and “a bunch of others too numerous to mention,” drawing from the original fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm), and War Of The Worlds (screen story and screenplay by Kenny Golde and screenplay by Marc Hyman, “adapting (or destroying) the classic novel by H.G. Wells”).

With five total, Section 31 ties Hurry Up Tomorrow for the second most nominations. Leading the pack are Snow White and War of the Worlds with six each.

The Golden Raspberry nominations were determined by the votes of Razzie Members (as of 2025, “1,217 movie buffs, film critics and journalists from 49 US States and two dozen foreign countries”). The “Winners” of the 46th Annual Razzie Awards “for whom there will literally be no red carpet” will be unveiled on “Oscar Eve,” Sat, March 14th.

First Razzie Trek nominations in three decades

Section 31 actually doesn’t hold the franchise record for most Razzie nominations. That distinction belongs to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, which was nominated for six Razzie Awards in 1991. It “won” awards for “Worst Picture” as well as “Worst Director” and “Worst Actor” for William Shatner. The last Star Trek film recognized by the Razzies was Star Trek: Generations, which nominated William Shatner for “Worst Actor” in 1995. And the Razzies seem to really have it in for the original Captain Kirk. In 2000, Shatner was nominated for “Worst Actor of the Century.”

Section 31 nominated for sound award

It’s not all bad news for Star Trek: Section 31. The streaming movie also picked up another industry nomination, recognizing good work this time, by the Motion Picture Sound Editors. Section 31 was one of the nominees for the 73rd Golden Reel Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing for a Non-theatrical Feature. Other nominees are: Beast of War, The Gorge, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

The nominated Section 31 team is:

Supervising Sound Editor: Matthew E. Taylor MPSE
Sound Designer: Michael Schapiro MPSE
Sound Effects Editors: Alex Pugh MPSE, Kip Smedley, Andrew Twite
Sound Editor: Deron Street
Dialogue Editor: Austin Olivia Kendrick
ADR Editors: Sean Heissinger MPSE, Sebastian Sheehan Visconti MPSE
Foley Editor: Darrin Mann, Clay Weber MPSE
Foley Artist: Alyson Dee Moore, Katie Rose

Last year, the same Section 31 sound editing team picked up an Emmy nomination for their work. The Golden Reel Awards will be handed out in a ceremony on March 8 in Los Angeles.

And in addition to Osunsanmi’s Image Award nomination for Best Director, the streaming movie was previously nominated for a makeup guild award, and star Michelle Yeoh was nominated for a Critics Choice Super Award.
