Nicholas Galitzine is He-Man in 1st trailer for ‘Masters of the Universe’

Our first look at Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man is here. Amazon MGM on Thursday released the trailer for the live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe, in which Galitzine stars as the muscular, sword-wielding superhero.

Directed by Travis Knight, whose credits include Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, the forthcoming adaptation is based on Mattel’s popular 1980s toy line, which spawned comic books and an animated series.

Masters of the Universe, which hits theaters on June 5, follows He-Man as he battles to protect his planet, Eternia, from Skeletor (Jared Leto), who seeks to conquer it.

The trailer opens with He-Man’s voice as he talks about how the stuff of “legends and bedtime stories” — like “magic swords that can make a man mighty as a god” — is actually real in the world that he comes from. We then visit He-Man in real time, only he isn’t in some magical world — he’s on Earth, sitting in a cubicle as he works a mundane corporate job. His existence seems pretty unexciting, that is, until he learns that someone has tracked down his sword. What eventually ensues, as shown later in the trailer, is an epic showdown between He-Man and Skeletor on Eternia.

The film’s star-studded cast includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw and Sasheer Zamata as Suzie.

The release of the first Masters of the Universe teaser comes several months after Galitzine teased his transformation into the superhero by sharing a silhouetted image of himself in character.

“Well, that’s a wrap on Masters of the Universe. It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He Man,” Galitzine wrote on Instagram last June. “It’s been the role of a lifetime and I put everything into it. There’s not much I can show you, but I am so proud of the movie we’ve made. Thanks to our amazing cast and crew for all your hard work.”

Masters of the Universe will premiere this summer.
