‘Chicago Fire’s Dermot Mulroney To Go On Hiatus; Rob Morgan Joins Cast

EXCLUSIVE: Dermot Mulroney‘s character, Battalion Chief Dominick “Dom” Pascal, on NBC‘s Chicago Fire, will spend some off-camera time in the latter part of Season 14.
Pascal will last appear in the upcoming 14th episode, with a break that will take him into the end of the season, when he may return, sources tell Deadline. We understand that scripts for the last episodes have yet to be finalized. Mulroney will appear in the just confirmed upcoming crossover event (Episode 13) between the One Chicago shows: Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D., airing Wednesday, March 4 from 8-11 p.m. ET/PT.
While Pascal is away, fans will meet a new addition to the series, to be played by Rob Morgan (Mudbound, The Last Black Man in San Francisco). In a recurring role, Morgan will play Battalion Chief Hopkins, who has a long, haunted past in overseeing several Chicago firehouses and is quick to assert authority over his colleagues. He will make his Chicago Fire debut in Episode 16 and will appear in four episodes, including the season finale.
We hear that Mulroney’s hiatus is part of Pascal’s storyline and that viewers will understand more about the decision and Hopkins’ overall role in the season as the story plays out. Cast pickup decisions for a potential 15th season of Chicago Fire aren’t being discussed at this time, as the show has yet to be officially renewed, sources tell me.
Mulroney joined the hit firefighter procedural in July of 2024, following Eamonn Walker’s exit as a series regular. Since Season 13, he has played Pascal, a character whose leadership style differs from Boden’s (Walker), but he eventually earned the trust and respect of his crew at Firehouse 51.
In addition to his work on Chicago Fire, Mulroney is a series regular on the Netflix drama series The Hunting Wives, playing Jed Banks. The show’s upcoming second season started production in November and has been filming concurrently with Chicago Fire. It is expected to premiere later this year.
Morgan has a slew of notable credits across film and TV and is perhaps best known for playing Turk Barrett in Netflix’s Marvel TV series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. Most recently, he played the series regular roles of McNab in the Peacock horror series Teacup and Earvin Johnson Sr. in HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. His additional small screen credits include Taylor Sheridan’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Netflix’s Stranger Things, and a stint on the beloved NBC series This Is Us.
While Morgan did appear in an episode of the CBS series Bull, he was nominated for Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards in 2019 and awarded a Special Jury Award for his lead turn in the film Bull, directed by Annie Silverstein.
Also on the film side, Morgan is best known for his work in the critically acclaimed features Mudbound, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and Just Mercy. He most recently starred opposite Mathew McConaughey in The Rivals of Amziah King, which premiered at SWSW and will be released theatrically this summer. His latest film, Frank & Louis, will premiere this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. This will be Morgan’s sixth time at Sundance supporting one of his releases. He is repped by Elysian Heights and Fox Rothchild.
