Tricky travel conditions continue Friday with more snow

After a Thursday afternoon commute of numerous collisions and hazardous travel conditions, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for more snow Friday.

The weather authority called for 5 cm of additional snow Friday.

Once again, the drive through Waterloo Region could include quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

“Lake effect snow and areas of blowing snow are expected to occasionally affect the area today leading to sudden reductions in visibility,” read the weather alert.

Blowing snow is also a factor Friday, something commuters have already been dealing with.

The windy conditions were a main issue on the Thursday drive. Traffic callers to the 570 NewsRadio newsroom said at times, they could barely see the lanes.

Snow events are still in place in Waterloo, Cambridge, Wilmot, Woolwich, and Wellesley.

The City of Kitchener ended its snow event on Thursday afternoon at 5 p.m.

The snowfall is expected to continue into the weekend. 570 NewsRadio Meteorologist Carl Lam said a massive system is moving in on Sunday with 15-25 cm of snow possible before Monday.

Temperatures will also be extremely cold, with wind chill values near -30 Saturday and Sunday.
