Earlier, Mitchell Santner handed New Zealand a strong finish, taking the visitors to 208/6 in 20 overs in the first T20I in Raipur, on Friday. The New Zealand captain smacked an unbeaten knock of 47* runs off 27 balls, laced with six fours and a maximum. Rachin Ravindra narrowly missed out on a half-century, losing his wicket to Kuldeep Yadav for 44 off 26 balls. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube got Daryl Mitchell’s wicket. The visitors started strongly, but Harshit Rana came to India’s rescue, removing Conway. Opener Devon Conway smacked Arshdeep Singh for 18 runs in the first over, and was looking to get more boundaries in the fourth over. But Rana struck, removing Conway for 19 off nine balls and also breaking his partnership with Tim Seifert. Then Seifert also departed, losing his wicket to Varun Chakaravarthy for 24 off 13 balls. Meanwhile, Kuldeep removed Glenn Phillips for 19 off 13 balls.

In the first T20I, Abhishek was in fine form and once again justified his position as the world’s No. 1 T20I batter. The Indian opener smacked 84 off 35 balls, laced with five fours and eight sixes, and was striking at 240.00. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh donned the finisher role with ease, hammering 44* off 20 deliveries and remaining unbeaten as India posted 238/7 in 20 overs. Defending a target of 239 runs, the hosts restricted New Zealand to 190/7 in 20 overs, with Shivam Dube taking two wickets. Meanwhile, Varun Chakaravarthy also bagged two dismissals.
