Hendrix Lapierre did the unthinkable on Friday. He scored a goal in an NHL hockey game.
After finding a rebound at his feet, Lapierre sent a shot from the side of the net past Flames goaltender Devin Cooley, ending his long goalless streak at 90 games.
“SCORE!! HENDRIX! LAPIERRE! And he gets King Kong off his back!” yelled Monumental Sports Network’s Joe Beninati in one of his best calls of the season.
Naturally, Lapierre’s teammates celebrated with him along the boards as if they had just won the Stanley Cup.
The bench was also very excited.
The last time Lapierre lit the lamp was on March 18, 2024, against the Calgary Flames. He then went without a goal in the final 15 games of the 2023-24 season. He did not score in 27 appearances last year and had gone goalless in all 48 games this season before lighting the lamp against the Flames tonight. It was the longest active streak in the NHL.
Lapierre now has two goals in two games against the Calgary Flames. Let’s just play them every night for now on.
Way to go, Hendrix!
