Daytona Rolex 24: Last practice for IMSA WeatherTech Championship cars

The Rolex 24 cars went through their final practice session Friday morning before this weekend’s race at Daytona International Speedway.

DAYTONA BEACH — After some shuffling, the Rolex 24 lineup is set.

Jack Aitken and the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac posted the best time during Thursday’s qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. But they won’t start up front during the Saturday-Sunday (Jan. 24-25) race after failing technical inspection because the car’s rear skid block being ground down too much.

As a result, the No. 93 Acura of Meyer Shank Racing claimed the pole position. It will be followed by the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac among the GTP machines.

The No. 43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca will lead the LMP2 pack. The No. 3 Corvette and the No. 27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin will start first in the GTP Pro and GTD classes, respectively.

Saturday’s green flag will fly at 1:40 p.m. Here’s the full grid.
