ABC13 Weather Alert: Ice and Winter Storm Warnings issued for Houston and most of southeast Texas

As winter weather conditions continue to evolve, deicing operations are underway at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby Airports, according to Houston Airports.

Houston Airports said that as of Saturday evening, 185 flights at Bush Intercontinental Airport and 52 at Hobby Airport had been canceled.

The airport authority said both airports remained open and operational, and that the emergency operations centers at each were activated on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Houston Airports said representatives from TSA, the Houston Police Department, the Houston Fire Department, and partner airlines are supporting coordinated, real-time response efforts. It added that the USO at IAH will remain open overnight to support active-duty military members in transit.

Officials advised passengers to monitor conditions before traveling, maintain communication with their airline, plan ahead for commutes, and check weather conditions at their destinations and connecting cities.

Houston Airports also reminded travelers that the airports are not shelters and passengers should coordinate directly with their airline if travel plans change.

Flight delays and cancellations can be tracked at Fly2Houston.com, where passengers can also find airline travel waivers, flight status links, and frequently asked questions.
