Mountain snow clearing up this evening, then one more round on Sunday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Snow is clearing up this evening for most of the mountains, but another round is on the way for Sunday.

Winter Weather Alerts

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect until 5 AM Sunday for the Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet, Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains above 11,000 feet, and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains above 11,000 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 2-5 inches are possible.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect until 11 PM this evening for the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide in Colorado and the La Sal and Abajo Mountains in Utah. Additional snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect until 5 AM Sunday for the Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, Gore and Elk Mountains/Central Mountain Valleys, Grand and Battlement Mesas, West Elk Mountains, Sawatch Mountains, San Juan River Basin, Wet Mountains, Wet Mountains Valley, Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains between 8,500 and 11,000 feet, Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains between 7,500 and 11,000 feet, Eastern Sawatch Mountains above 11,000 feet, La Garita Mountains above 10,000 feet, and East Lake County above 11,000 feet. Additional snow accumulations of up to 5 inches are possible.

An Avalanche Warning is still in effect until 5 PM Sunday for the West Elk Mountains including the Ruby and Ragged Ranges. Heavy snow can cause potential for large and dangerous avalanches to be triggered. Avoid travel on and under slopes steeper than about 30 degrees in that area.

Timing the Snow

Mountain snow will continue to fade this evening, then be mostly calm during the overnight. Another round of snow will move through the mountains Sunday morning and afternoon before it starts to fade in the evening. Not much snow is expected with this wave. Areas that do receive snow are looking at a trace to 2 inches with some locally higher amounts up to around 5 inches possible. The valleys will be dry and mostly sunny with some clouds later in the day.

Denver Broncos Forecast

The Denver Broncos play at home Sunday against the New England Patriots. Kickoff is at 1 PM, and it will be a cold game with snow showers at times. The temperature will be around 25 degrees at kickoff and cool from there to about 21 degrees around the 4th quarter. Winds can gust up to 20 mph as well, which can cause wind chill values to be in the teens, even possible single digits. Be sure to bundle up if attending the game.

This evening will be mostly clear. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s to low 30s around 7 PM, then mid to upper 20s around 9 PM. Sunday will be mostly sunny with increased cloud cover later in the day. Morning lows will be about 15 degrees in Grand Junction, 10 degrees in Montrose, 11 degrees in Delta, 9 degrees in Cortez, and 16 degrees in Moab. Temperatures will increase to the upper 20s to low 30s around noon. Afternoon highs will be about 36 degrees in Grand Junction, 32 degrees in Montrose, 37 degrees in Delta, 37 degrees in Cortez, and 40 degrees in Moab.
