Walz ends the news conference by offering a tribute to Pretti, saying he was an ICU nurse, a son, and “beloved by community”.
He encourages federal leadership to stop “smearing” Pretti, adding that his family “has been through enough” in having to bury their son.
“You know what you saw, and then you heard the most powerful people in the world…narrate to you what you were looking at, that this was a domestic terrorist,” Walz said, adding that federal agents closed the crime scene, “sweeping away the evidence”.
He said someone needs to be held accountable for the shooting and renewed calls for Trump to get ICE agents out of Minneapolis.
“This is an inflection point, America,” he said. “If we cannot all agree that the smearing of an American citizen and besmirching everything they stood for and asking us not to believe what we saw, I don’t know what else to tell you,” he adds.
With that, Walz ends his news briefing.
