Sean McVay postseason success: Record, history with Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are fighting for their third Super Bowl berth under coach Sean McVay. They’re in the NFC championship game this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks for the first time since 2021, when they won the Super Bowl.
A thrilling 34-31 win over the host Carolina Panthers earned the Rams a trip to Chicago to take on the Bears in the divisional round where they won 20-17 in overtime.

Los Angeles has been a postseason regular since coach Sean McVay took the helm in 2017. The Rams have made the playoffs seven times in his nine seasons with the team. The franchise’s 92 regular-season wins in that span are the fifth-most in the NFL.
Those nine seasons include two Super Bowl appearances and a championship in 2021. McVay has cemented his status as one of the top coaches in the league in his time with the Rams.

McVay has coached against all but two NFC teams in the playoffs: the New York Giants and Washington Commanders. The 2025 NFC championship game will be the first time McVay has coached against a team for the second time in the postseason.

McVay has coached 149 regular-season games in his nine seasons with the Rams. With the latest round of coaching changes, he’s tied for the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL with his NFC West foe Kyle Shanahan. Only Andy Reid, who was hired in 2013 by the Kansas City Chiefs, has a longer active coaching stint.
McVay is 92-57 in the regular season since taking over in 2017, behind only the Kansas City Chiefs (106-43), Buffalo Bills (98-50), Baltimore Ravens (95-54) and Philadelphia Eagles (94-54-1). His 92 wins are fifth-most among active coaches as well behind Reid (279), Payton (184), Harbaugh (180) and McCarthy (174).
